How a Bank Statement PDF Becomes a Checked Excel File
BankExcel Converter is a single-purpose tool: take a complete PDF bank statement, rebuild the transaction table, and show whether the numbers add up before you download Excel or CSV. Standard conversion runs in the browser. Paid AI repair may send redacted page text only—not the PDF and not a photograph.
1. Check the file locally
The file is opened in your browser first. Empty files, files over 2 GB, files that are not PDF, JPG or PNG, password-protected documents, and damaged files are rejected with an explicit message. Files over 1 GB need a paid plan. Small files wait for a result; 10–30 page or megabyte files show Processing with live progress; larger files continue in the background, split into page batches, or run as a large job.
2. Read native text or run local OCR
Pages with a usable text layer keep their printed words and coordinates. Scanned pages are rendered in the browser and read by an English OCR engine served from this site, not from a third-party CDN. Account numbers, dates, and amounts stay in the current tab.
3. Reconstruct transactions
The converter looks for leading dates, money tokens, debit and credit columns, and running balances. Wrapped descriptions are merged into the previous row. Lines that look like transactions but cannot be rebuilt are listed instead of dropped. Month/day dates take their year from the statement period.
4. Verify the balance chain
Each amount is stored as integer cents. The opening balance plus every reconstructed row is compared with the printed closing balance. Breaks, duplicates, sign conflicts, and repaired OCR decimals are flagged on the row they affect. A green result means the chain reconciles; it does not mean the export is ready for the books without review.
5. Paid AI repair only when local is wrong
Free conversion stays on-device. AI repair is requested only when this conversion uses remaining paid pages and the local table is empty or the opening/closing balance chain does not reconcile. That request carries redacted page text (identifiers masked except the last four digits), not the original file or a page photograph. The payload is not stored and is not used to train models.
6. Export Excel or CSV
Download XLSX or CSV with source page, validation status, a summary of declared versus calculated closing balances, and a review log. Spreadsheet formulas hidden in statement text are neutralized so a description cannot become a formula in Excel.
