Why use this CSV to QBO converter?

Smart Multi-Column Mapping

Bank CSVs do not share one header layout. This parser matches Date, Payee, and Amount (or Debit and Credit) when those labels are recognizable. You can remap any column before the QBO is written.

Historical ledgers, reviewed then packaged

A year of spreadsheet activity can become a Web Connect file without retyping rows. Map columns once, check signs and dates, then download. It is not a live bank feed and it does not post into QuickBooks for you.

Native Web Connect, not a messy CSV import

QuickBooks Desktop file import looks for a .qbo (OFX 1.02 with an INTU.BID header), not a raw bank CSV. Confirm the import path in your edition. QuickBooks Online supports manual uploads; generated files still need import testing.

How to convert CSV to QBO in three steps

  1. 1

Upload Your Basic CSV or Excel File

Drag and drop a .csv or .xlsx table into this browser tab. You do not need a PDF for this tool, and you do not need an account to try a spreadsheet. Password-protected workbooks are not supported.

  2. 2

Map Columns to Web Connect Fields

Header detection aligns Date, Payee, and Amount when it can. Use the interactive column map to confirm debit/credit vs a single signed amount, then review the table. This is not a Chart of Accounts mapping.

  3. 3

Download and Test the QuickBooks Import

Export the .qbo, open QuickBooks, and import via Web Connect on a backup company file. Check a sample of amounts against the source sheet before you post live books.

Why QuickBooks will not take the CSV your bank gave you

Desktop Requires Web Connect over Messy CSV

QuickBooks Desktop often rejects a raw checking CSV. File import looks for Web Connect metadata so it can populate the register. Extra columns, merged headers, or a missing amount field will not import as a statement.

Check the manual upload format

QuickBooks Online supports manual transaction uploads. Follow its file-format and column requirements, and test generated files before importing a full history.

Slash dates are read month-first

ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD) stay as written. Values like 03/04/2026 are read as month then day, not day-first. Mixed decimals and flipped withdrawals still need a human pass before you import.

Payee names are not categories

The QBO copies descriptions from your sheet. You still assign accounts and rules inside QuickBooks after import. Amounts are not converted between currencies.

Who ends up needing a .qbo

QuickBooks Desktop users

People who still import Web Connect files instead of a live bank feed, including older company files.

Bookkeepers catching up history

A year of CSV activity can be mapped once, reviewed, and imported as a statement file instead of typing rows.

Banks that only give CSV

If the portal has no OFX or QBO download, this page turns the spreadsheet export into a QBO.

Payroll and rent recaps

A cleaned table of deposits and withdrawals, not a scanned statement, is the right starting file.

Accountants testing an import path

Confirm Desktop still accepts the file on a copy of the company file before you touch the live books.

Anyone avoiding a bank-feed wait

When a feed is delayed or unavailable, a reviewed QBO is a fallback—not a substitute for reconciling in QuickBooks.

Frequently Asked Questions — CSV to QBO Converter

What formatting layout should my CSV file have before uploading?

You need a date column, a payee or description, and either a signed amount or separate withdrawal and deposit columns. Recognizable headers are mapped automatically. Unusual names can be remapped after upload. This is not a promise that every random spreadsheet will parse without edits.

Will the generated QBO file support older QuickBooks Desktop versions?

The file is OFX 1.02 with an INTU.BID header, which Desktop uses for Web Connect. Test on a backup company file. We do not claim every Desktop year, region, or edition (Pro, Premier, Enterprise) accepts it. QuickBooks Online also supports manual transaction uploads.

How does the converter handle combined deposit and withdrawal columns?

A single Amount column with positive and negative values works, and so do separate Debit and Credit columns. Map those fields in the review pane so signs are not reversed in the .qbo.

Is my confidential client transaction data safe on this website?

CSV and Excel are read in this browser tab. The original spreadsheet is not uploaded to a conversion server. Closing the tab ends active processing; saved browser history and downloaded files may remain. Account signup is for PDF page quota and billing, not to store this file.

Can I convert a large Excel file with thousands of rows?

Yes, within table limits. This page accepts .csv and .xlsx up to 50 MB. Excel uses the first worksheet, up to 100,000 rows. Keep the tab open while it parses. Review dates and signs before you download.

Does QuickBooks Online accept a QBO from this converter?

QuickBooks Online supports manual uploads. Check the formats accepted by your account and test a short file first. This converter is free to try in the browser; PDF OCR tools separately include 20 pages per day on Free.
